(Sports Network) - The Ottawa Senators will try to keep heading in the right direction tonight, when they battle the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

The Senators have won two straight and seven of their last nine games. Ottawa's recent surge has helped it climb into a tie with Carolina for fifth place in the Eastern Conference playoff standings.

Ottawa picked up its latest triumph Tuesday night against visiting Boston. Daniel Alfredsson scored the go-ahead goal with under eight minutes remaining, and the Sens struck five times in the final period on the way to a 5-2 victory over the Bruins at Scotiabank Place.

Mike Comrie, Dany Heatley, Patrick Eaves and Peter Schaefer also scored for the Senators.

Chris Kelly had a pair of assists and Ray Emery stopped 23 shots for Ottawa, which had lost all three previous meetings against the Bruins this season.

Meanwhile, the Rangers will try to get back on the right track after Tuesday's setback to the rival New York Islanders. Viktor Kozlov's third-period tally was the game-winner as the Isles bested the Rangers, 5-3, at MSG.
