UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) -Rangers forward Jed Ortmeyer, out all season due to a pulmonary embolism, took another step Tuesday toward returning to the active roster.
Ortmeyer and defenseman Bryce Lampman were recalled from Hartford of the AHL, just hours before the Rangers played the New York Islanders. Both were scratched from the lineup.
Ortmeyer will remain a non-roster injured player until coach Tom Renney thinks the right wing is ready to play. That is expected to be soon - perhaps as early as this weekend when the Rangers face Ottawa and Washington on consecutive days.
Right wing Brad Isbister was sent back down to Hartford after scoring one goal in two games with the Rangers following his recall last Wednesday.
The 28-year-old Ortmeyer had one goal and two assists in five games with Hartford after being sent there on Dec. 12 for a conditioning assignment, which is allowed for players coming back from long-term illnesses.
