NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Anders Hedberg was one of the New York Rangers' top goal-scoring threats during his NHL career. Now, he will attempt to find players of a similar type for the team.

Hedberg, who recorded four 30-goal seasons with the Rangers as a player, was named the team's head professional European scout Thursday.

A native of Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, Hedberg spent all seven of his seasons in the NHL with New York after eclipsing the 50-goal mark in each of his four campaigns with the Winnipeg Jets of the defunct World Hockey Association from 1974-78. A two-time All-Star with the Rangers, the 56-year-old collected 172 tallies and 397 points in 465 games while also winning the Masterton Trophy in 1984-85, his final season in the league.

New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that Anders Hedberg has been added to the club’s scouting staff as the Head Professional European Scout. Hedberg will be responsible for assessing free agent talent playing in Europe.

Hedberg, 56, joins the team after working with the Ottawa Senators organization for the past five seasons. Hedberg served as Ottawa’s Director of Player Personnel from 2002 to 2006 and spent the 2006-07 season as the team’s North American and European Hockey Coordinator.
