NEW YORK - The New York Rangers of the National Hockey League announced that they have acquired former ECHL defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, center Joe Barnes and a third-round selection in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for center Matt Cullen.

The Charlotte Checkers are the ECHL affiliate of the Rangers of the NHL and the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.

Selected by Nashville in the second round (54th overall) of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, Hutchinson had seven points (2g-5a) in 10 games with Toledo as a rookie in 2002-03 while also playing in the AHL where he had 26 points (9g-17a) in 63 regular season games and one goal in three postseason games with Milwaukee.

Rangers need to send Carolina a Christmas card. Here are the rangers wallowing in the fact that they have overpaid for loads of players and find themselves over the cap, and what do the Hurricans do, bail them out by taking a $2.8Million load off the Rangers hands. Sorry, don't see Cullen being worth $2.8Mill a year. Everyone should have just played hands off of all the Rangers offers, and seen what would have happened.
