Chaisson cleared to play

Nineteen-year-old defenceman Ben Chaisson has been cleared to play and will be in the lineup this weekend, Halifax Mooseheads' General Manager Marcel Patenaude confirmed today.

Chaisson has not played this season, after undergoing shoulder surgery in July, necessitating a lengthy rehabilitation.

Mooseheads host the Saint John Sea Dogs at 7:00 p.m. Friday and the St. John's Fog Devils Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

Council needs to get serious

Citizens of Halifax Regional Municipality, say hello to the sign police.

Three bylaw enforcement officers will spread out through our city, looking for those apparently evil mobile road signs. These portable billboards are apparently a big enough issue that council and staff spent six years putting together a bylaw - along with lengthy debate, including the three hours of wrangling we witnessed at Tuesday night's session.

The result of this gargantuan effort to rid our communities of this supposed blight is a 70-page-thick document with more 40 attachments. And it's only temporary, at that.

The vote was but minutes old when three councillors declared their intentions to propose changes when the city's brain trust sits down again next week.

Fog Devils Partner with Atlantic Division Teams

The St. John's Fog Devils announced that the club has joined with members of the Eastern Division in a ticket loyalty program for Season Ticket Holders that encourages attending games in each others' venues during the 2006-07 season.

Known as the "Ambassador Program", the initiative gives season ticket holders an opportunity to purchase up to two tickets to a regular season game in an out-of-town Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) community for only $10.

The Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Halifax Mooseheads, Lewiston MAINEiacs, Moncton Wildcats, Saint John Sea Dogs and PEI Rocket are also participating in the program.

Although the Fog Devils are not in close proximity to the other teams in the Division, the club felt this was an added Season Ticket Holder benefit due to the high volume of travel traffic Newfoundland and Labradorians do around the region. Season Ticket Holders who wish to participate in the loyalty program can pick up their Ambassador Program vouchers at the Fog Devils next set of home games or by calling the Fog Devils office at 754-8282.

The Fog Devils will be producing its first ever road radio broadcast tomorrow night when the club faces the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in Sydney, NS. The next home action is Saturday, October 7th and Sunday, October 8th when the club hosts the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Tickets for the these games are currently on sale at the Mile One Stadium Box Office. As well all Fog Devils Ticket Paks including the Molson 5 Flex Pak, the Pepsi 10 Flex Pak and the McDonald's "I'm Lovin' It" Family Paks are also on sale. MAINEiacs to Launch "Last Fan Standing" during Home Opening Weekend

Lewiston, ME - The Lewiston MAINEiacs are thrilled to announce the launch of their newest promotion, tagged the "Last Fan Standing" during both games of their home opening weekend on October 6th and 7th at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée.

The "Last Fan Standing" will occur during both intermissions of both games (4 occurrences) whereby each time, one spectator will become the "Last Fan Standing" and be awarded a prize of $1,000! A total of $4,000 is scheduled to be awarded over the course of Home Opening Weekend on October 6th and 7th as the MAINEiacs host a double-header against the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles.

"We spent a lot time this off-season discussing different ways to better reach the casual fan to compliment our strong base of season tickets and group sales," mentioned Matt McKnight the team's Vice President and Governor. "This promotion is designed to create an immediate impact whereby all fans in attendance have an equal chance to win a significant prize."

The "Last Fan Standing" is scheduled to take place during the second intermission of every Friday night game throughout the 2006-2007 season with a $1,000 prize to awarded each game. Lewiston is in Baie Comeau tonight (September 29th) to take on the Drakkar for their 5th game of a current 6-game road trip. The MAINEiacs currently sit in 2nd position in the Eastern Division with a 3-1 record thus far, with all games having been played on the road. The team travels back to Chicoutimi tomorrow night for the final game of this grueling trip before returning home to Lewiston in early hours of October 1st.

Moose move Cormier

Kevin Cormier will get to skate alongside his little brother Patrice after the Halifax Mooseheads traded him to the Rimouski Oceanic on Thursday.

The Mooseheads sent a fourth-round pick in 2008 to the Oceanic along with Cormier in exchange for second- and third-round picks in the 2008 QMJHL draft. The 20-year-old left-winger has already been sent back to junior by his NHL team, the Phoenix Coyotes, and the Oceanic are hoping to have him in the lineup tonight when they face the Quebec Remparts at home.

"He will arrive in Rimouski tomorrow (Friday)," said Oceanic general manager Andre Jolicoeur. "We’re not sure if he will be available in time for the game, but he will be here tomorrow. We talked to Phoenix and he is already on the plane to Montreal today and we hope he will be here by the morning and will be able to play (that) night."

Cormier spent two full seasons with the Mooseheads after being acquired from the P.E.I. Rocket in January, 2004. He scored 18 goals and 34 points in 170 games, but it was his 442 minutes in penalties that made him a fan favourite in Halifax. The six-foot-three, 236-pound enforcer was the most feared fighter in the league last year and will certainly reclaim that status now that he is back in the QMJHL for his overage season.

Hillier's struggles mirror team's

At this time last season, Ryan Hillier was on fire: two goals, five assists and a plus-1 rating in five games.

It's a different story so far this season.

The Hammonds Plains native is off to a sluggish start, goalless with an assist and a minus-7 rating in his first five games.

His Halifax Mooseheads aren't doing much better - one win, four losses and sole possession of last in their division.

It's not the start Hillier or the Mooseheads wanted, but it's one they hope to put behind them when they host the Saint John Sea Dogs tonight at 7 p.m. at the Metro Centre.
