Cliche gives 110 per cent, scoring twice in Lewiston's 3-2 win over Quebec

With their backs against the wall, the Lewiston Maineiacs summoned their own Cliche to earn a win over the defending Memorial Cup champions.

Marc-Andre Cliche scored twice, including the game winner early in the third period, to lead the Maineiacs to a 3-2 win over the Quebec Remparts on Tuesday in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Fog Devils announce radio broadcast

The St. John's Fog Devils announced today that the club will be launching a radio broadcast for all road games for the remainder of the 2006-07 season.

The games will be broadcast on Steele Communications' Radio Newfoundland (930AM) starting this Friday, September 29 when the Fog Devils travel to Centre 200 to face the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The play-by-play broadcaster will be Brian Rogers.

The Fog Devils next home action is Saturday, October 7th and Sunday, October 8th when the club hosts the Drummondville Voltigeurs.

Tickets for the these games are currently on sale at the Mile One Stadium Box Office. As well all Fog Devils Ticket Paks including the Molson 5 Flex Pak, the Pepsi 10 Flex Pak and the McDonald's "I'm Lovin' It" Family Paks are also on sale. Tickets can be paid for by cash, VISA or Mastercard at the Box Office, by phone (576-7657) or online at admission.com.

The Fog Devils radio broadcast can also be heard on the internet at www.radionewfoundland.net.

The St. John's Fog Devils are are one of 58 member clubs of the Canadian Hockey League.

Maineiacs hold off Remparts

Jonathan Bernier was back to his show-stopping self, captain Marc-Andre Cliche pulled out the game-winning goal in the third period and the Lewiston Maineiacs bounced back from a disappointing loss Sunday with a tough road win in Quebec on Tuesday night.

Cliche flipped the puck past Remparts' goaltender Loic Lacasse at 6:45 of the third period, and Bernier made several outstanding saves with less than a minute to play, including one with his glove hand from his back on Quebec forward Brent Aubin, as the Maineiacs defeated the Remparts 3-2 at the Colisee Pepsi.

"This was good, especially because of the way we played the whole game," said Maineiacs' head coach Clem Jodoin. "They scored early on a 5-on-3, but after that, we played very well, very, very well."

The win also marked a pair of milestones for one of the newest Lewiston skaters. Simon Courcelles, who was the captain last year for Quebec when it won the Memorial Cup, recorded his 100th career assist in front of the fans for whom he had played for three years.

Sheppard heading home

Screaming Eagles fans can start breathing a little easier — the team’s star centreman will be back in Cape Breton for a third season.
Lower Sackville’s James Sheppard has spent the past three weeks at the Minnesota Wild training camp, but his extended stay with the NHL club unfortunately hasn’t had much to do with his performance on the ice.
Sheppard has been suffering from a back injury and Minnesota management wants to make sure their No. 1 pick from last June’s draft is healthy before sending him back to junior.

Mooseheads’ Swan to sit with injury

Halifax Mooseheads’ forward Bryce Swan will miss this weekend’s homestand due to a broken bone in his left hand.

The 19-year-old Swan suffered the injury during a road game on the weekend against the Quebec Remparts.

He broke the hand during a collision after scoring two goals in the first period. He has three goals in five games this year.

Swan will be evaluated by team doctors in two weeks to determine when he will be able to resume playing.

Halifax plays Saint John on Friday and St. John’s on Sunday at Metro Centre.

Swan will miss weekend homestand

Nineteen-year-old winger Bryce Swan will miss this weekend's home stand, due to an injury he received in last Sunday's game at Quebec Remparts, Halifax Mooseheads' General Manager Marcel Patenaude announced today.

Swan broke a bone in his left hand during a collision after scoring a pair of first-period goals, his second and third during the Mooseheads' three-game road trip.

Swan will be evaluated by team doctors in two-weeks to determine when he will be able to resume playing.
