MAINEiacs captain, Marc-Andre Cliche to play for Team Canada at World Junior Hockey Championship

Lewiston, ME - MAINEiacs captain Marc-Andre Cliche made history, as he is the first ever Lewiston MAINEiacs player to make Team Canada's world junior team. Cliche will try and lead Team Canada to their third straight gold medal at the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship, held from December 26, 2006 to January 5, 2007 in Ledsank/Mora Sweden.

Three other players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League were selected with Cliche to represent the league and their conutry. They are forwards Brad Marchand (Val-d'Or), as well as returning defensemen Luc Bourdon (Moncton) and Kristopher Letang (Val-d'Or).

Unfortunately MAINEiacs goaltender Jonathan Bernier didn't make the cut and will return to the team. Other QMJHL players to be sent back to their respective teams include Mathieu Perreault (Titan), Claude Giroux (Olympiques), and Angelo Esposito (Remparts). Nevertheless, they all remain eligible for next year's tournament.

The ten teams participating in the tournament will be divided-up into two groups: A and B. Group A includes Canada, Slovakia, Germany, Sweden and the United-States, while group B is made up of Russia, Finland, Switzerland, Belarus and the Czech Republic.

MAINEiacs head Coach and GM, Clem Jodoin (assistant coach for Team Canada) will help coach Team Canada in playing two exhibition games before their quest for the Gold Medal: in Helsinki on Wednesday, December 20, versus Finland and in Stockholm on Friday, December 22, versus Sweden.

Thereafter, Canada meets Sweden as the tournament officially kicks-off on December 26.
