After waving goodbye to Kimmo Timonen and Scott Hartnell yesterday, the Predators are moving in a different direction for the 2007-08 season, reports the Nashville City Paper.

The Predators traded Timonen and Hartnell to Philadelphia yesterday for a first-round draft pick, upon which the Flyers signed both players to six-year contracts.

Timonen and Hartnell would have become unrestricted free agents July 1 and it became clear to Predators GM David Poile that their asking prices were too high for the team to match.

"I talked to them a couple of times and told them it was our desire to have them become back as Predators, but it became clear to me last week that based on the dollars they wanted, the market and the length of the term they wanted was not going to happen with the Predators," Poile told the City Paper. "Two weeks from now we would have gotten absolutely nothing for their rights. This was the best thing for our franchise in moving forward. I think we made a good deal."
