Senators defenceman Chris Phillips is hoping he won't reach his unrestricted free agent status at the end of the season.

Phillips is hoping he can follow in the footsteps of Joe Sakic or Steve Yzerman, staying with one team for his entire career, writes the Ottawa Sun.

"In saying that, there aren't a lot of guys that are staying with one team their whole career. If there's a possibility of that happening (finishing his career with Ottawa), that would be great," Phillips told the Ottawa Sun.

It's been two weeks since the ban has been lifted for teams to start negotiating with their pending free agents but there has been no negotiations yet between Phillips and the club. There is no sense of urgency yet on either side though, as there is little chance Ottawa will trade the veteran defenceman before the trade deadline.

It's believed Edmonton GM Kevin Lowe has called to inquire about the availability of Phillips or Redden but GM John Muckler has said neither are available.
I'm glad phillups wants to stay. It would be a shem to lose such vetran presents in the team.:D

They were able to keep Redden, so hopefully they can keep Phillips as well!!!

I'd really hate to see him leave, he's a big piece of the puzzle on their defense.
