PITTSBURGH (AP) - Veteran left wing John LeClair was released by the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday.

The former 50-goal scorer and Penguins general manager Ray Shero came to an agreement in which the club would not be responsible for the remainder of his US$1.5 million salary.

The deal allows the Penguins to save money, while the two-time U.S. Olympian avoids the embarrassment of a suspension.

It's time that he hung up his skates, rather than be an embarrassment to himself and the team. :thumbsup:

I guess some players don't last as long as others. Maybe it was the back injury he had a few years ago.

Yes, he's 37, but man his play really degressed in the latter part of his career.

A bit of a shame really.
