Pat Burns as Coach?

With the inevitable return of Pat Burns to the NHL, should we get him or do we want to see him go to T.O. Ottawa or Florida? I think he would be a great fit and if we're going to blow up the team why not get a new coach to go with the new GM?

Firstly, if you're looking to make new friends you've got one. I've been suggesting Burns for some time now. I believe he's ready and willing to return to the helm. As for the Canucks having a new GM, well, they usually bring in their own guy so you never know....V could very well be out and a new man in so why not Patty Burns. 10th in all time wins I believe??.....

If Vigneault goes, he'll be replaced by a more offensive minded coach, so you can cross Burns off the list. It wouldn't shock me in the least to see Gillis bring Pat Quinn back in as the coach at that point.

But the longer we go without hearing that Vigneault is being let go, the greater the chance is that he's staying. My money is on him staying, at least for now.

And I hope he does stay, and they bring in the right youth. I think Vigneault is a good coach for a younger team.

But again, assuming that the injury problems were just a fluke.
I would like to say that I too like Vingeault. But I think we would benefit from a more offensive minded coach, so maybe Burns isn't the guy, just a thought. How about Don Hay. Quinn would also be interedting. How about a front office job for Linden....(Director of Hockey Operations) if he wants it.

Didn't Hay just sign a 3 or 5 year contract with the Giants?? There were rumors swirling that the Kamloops Blazers were interested in him so the Giants locked him up.

I would love to see Linden with a front office job.
I thought Vigneault was given a vote of confidence when Gillis said a coach is responsible for making the best use of his assets, and the assets were slim for Vigneault. If the Canucks do move to a veterean team I would like a coach who is easier on vetereans and gets better point totals out of them, but who's available? If Laviolette is let go by Carolina, he's the guy to coach a more offensive team with a mix of age, but he has to want to come to Vancouver too.

Sometimes I think Linden's managerial skills are overestimated. Sure he's won a Clancy award and he has been high up in the NHLPA, but he's never been on a Stanley Cup winner, at the end of his career he was not captain. He was considered a franchise leader for awhile, but he was stripped of it. It even seems like an insult to him to give his captaincy to the guy who as captain of his team beat him in the finals. Somehow I don't think Vancouver as an organization places as much faith in Linden as some of its fans have.
