(Sports Network) - The Carolina Hurricanes will try to bounce back from a tough loss this evening, when they visit the Florida Panthers at BankAtlantic Center.

The Hurricanes last played on Saturday and had a chance to gain ground on division-leading Atlanta, but the Thrashers outlasted the home team and earned a 4-3 shootout win behind the game-winning tally of Slava Kozlov.

Justin Williams, Ray Whitney and Dennis Seidenberg each tallied a goal for the Hurricanes, who had a three-game winning streak snapped. Cam Ward stopped 23 shots in the losing effort.

Carolina has 53 points and is five behind Atlanta for first place in the Southeast Division. The Hurricanes are the defending Stanley Cup champions, while the Thrashers have never made the playoffs.

The Panthers, who are last in the Southeast with 43 points, aim for consecutive wins tonight after pounding the Washington Capitals on Saturday.

Florida kicked off its three-game homestand with the 7-3 rout of the Caps. Stephen Weiss notched his first-career hat trick to help the Panthers roll to the easy win.
