(Sports Network) - The Edmonton Oilers have had most of their positive moments at home this season so it's important that they play well on their first long road trip of the year.

The Oilers began their current five-game trek with consecutive losses to Montreal and Detroit, but earned a win in Columbus on Friday. Ryan Smyth netted a pair of goals to guide Edmonton past the Blue Jackets, 4-1, at Nationwide Arena.

It was the third multi-goal game of the year for Smyth, who has 10 tallies on the season. The veteran winger has seven points (5g, 2a) over his last six contests.

Joffrey Lupul and Ales Hemsky also lit the lamp for the Oilers, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Netminder Dwayne Roloson stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced.
