(Sports Network) - It was tempting to call Edmonton's run to the 2006 Stanley Cup Finals a fluke, but the Oilers seem determined to change people's minds in that regard.

Edmonton was the eighth and final postseason seed in the West last year before becoming the surprise conference champion. The Oilers then lost key components of that team in the offseason when Chris Pronger, Michael Peca, Sergei Samsonov and Jaroslav Spacek departed Alberta.

However, the Oilers are doing just fine and are currently second in the Northwest Division with 23 points -- two points behind the first-place Minnesota Wild.

Edmonton began the month of November with four straight losses, but has turned it around with victories in four of its next five games.
