Is there any such thing as Officiating Accountability in the NHL? STARS have had some horrendous officiating the last two nights. Is there a protesting process? I know they can challenge the Game Misconduct on Hagman last night, but what about all the other calls/non-calls? Do they suspend officials for poor officiating/breaking thier own rules (making a call during a break that you did not make earlier)?

It's not just the Stars man, it's a league wide plague. The game is going through a very awkward moment in it's evolution IMO. The officiating is down right terrible most nights. And it's as though the moment a really good and well called game occurs a memo gets sent out reminding the refs of this new ideal the NHL (cough cough, clears throat) Bettman is shoving up are collective rears....I hate it to be honest and there are moments I wonder how long I will watch for. I am dead serious. I've walked away from this games BS in the past. When they moved Winnipeg to Phoenix I packed er in for a few years. Couldn't believe the direction this game is going then and today I am shocked beyond my wildest imagination.

I think the only thing that keeps me is my true deep passion for it all....and a hope that Bettman leaves and a real hockey man takes the helm.

I just want consistency. I see so many bad calls and missed calls on both sides these days whether I am watching my team play or another on Center Ice. We are finally getting rid of some of the bad older refs.; but, some of these newer guys aren't that much better either.

We all want consistency. I think one of the best ways to get an immediate, at least temporary fix, would be to have the officials briefly explain the call made.

If the explanation doesn't match up with the actual play on the ice, the league office can take appropriate action against officials who repeatedly get calls wrong.

The refs are pretty much forced to call everything that even remotely resembles a hook or hold, even if the other player's progress wasn't impeded. Further to that, the league was clear heading into the 2006 playoffs (and maintain the same stance today) that the standard of officiating MUST remain the same as in the regular season, and that any referee who does not do a good enough job of making interference-type calls can look for elsewhere. There's no way on earth that sort of situation can be good for the officiating standard.

As it pertains to the Dallas Stars... If you asked fans from every team in the league, they would tell you that their team, in particular, has been the victim of poor or even biased officiating.

In other words, if you have a complaint get in line. :)

does this mean that stars fans are the western equivalent of Philly Crier's fans? boo hoo... etc.... :D

but yar, refs can suck; they're human. but it is paranoid / excuse making to suggest they have blindness for certain teams. for sure a player's reputation can cause some decisions to be unduly heavy.... but whole teams... i think that's a bit hysterical. just take the rough with the smooth.

Give me a break, everyone complains about the refs. Flyers had legitimate issues with the refs in the first series and the call on Richards in the 3rd period of Game 1.

I think there is inconsitency all over. I don't like bad calls against my team; but, I also see many calls that they should have called against my team but don't. I am upset about bad inconsitent officiating, even within the same game, no matter who the teams are.

My original question about accountability was based on wondering if there was any independent method/service out their that reviews the games and grades the officiating

well as long as the inconsistencies are consistent.....

but i think the officiating team have a post-match review do they not? and if there were any major mis-calls, then the league can bring them up for review too....

The league is the group that reviews and grades the referees, as well as the NHLOA.
