To me it makes me wonder about the defense. We lost the #1 and #3 defensemen and replaced them with 2 #5 or 6 guys and another one that plays in Russia.

Maybe they think that Matt Greene is ready to be a #4 guy with Staios and Bergeron can play with Smith. In that case it'd be ok to get a #5 guy in Tjarnquist and #6 in Smid. The Oil do have 4 prospect dmen in college right now so maybe they are looking to one or two of them to come join the pro ranks.

Samsonov signed in Montreal for a reasonable contract. Just a shade over 3 mil per year which the Oilers should've been able to do without the Pronger and Peca deals holding them back.

Also noticed today that they signed the new Dman Hedja to a deal. Now to see if he can keep up in the North American game.
