NEW YORK -- Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals and Sidney Crosby of the Pittsburgh Penguins are among 37 players whose names will be appearing for the first time in the COLD-fX / NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, Presented by 2K Sports, which opens Nov. 15.
Ovechkin, the 2005-06 Calder Trophy winner, is joined by Calder runners-up Crosby and Dion Phaneuf of the Calgary Flames on the 100-player ballot. Reflecting the phenomenal success enjoyed by many young NHL players who have dominated recent headlines, the ballot also includes 2005-06 Stanley Cup heroes Eric Staal and Cam Ward of the Carolina Hurricanes, 2005-06 NHL goal-scoring leader Jonathan Cheechoo of the San Jose Sharks, 2003-04 goal-scoring co-leader Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets and 2006-07 rookie phenom Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins.
For the first time ever, the NHL-All Star Fan Balloting process will be entirely digital. From Nov. 15 through Jan. 2, fans around the world can "CLICK TO VOTE" for the Eastern and Western Conference All-Star starters for the 2007 NHL All-Star Game on-line at NHL.com and through Bell Canada cell phones.
The 2006-07 season marks the 19th year in which fans will determine the starting lineups for the NHL All-Star Game. Fans can vote for six Eastern Conference All-Stars and six Western Conference All-Stars: three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender for each team. If a player is not listed on the ballot, a space is provided for "write-in" votes. The three forwards, two defensemen and one goaltender from each Conference receiving the most votes will comprise the starting lineups. Each of the 30 NHL Clubs has at least two representatives on the ballot.

Bell Canada will activate the NHL All-Star Fan Balloting program with exclusive NHL content and positioning on the main deck, enabling their customers to cast votes from Bell Canada cell phones. Voting instructions for wireless customers will be available on NHL.com. In addition, Bell Canada will promote NHL All-Star Fan Balloting in Canada on-line via Sympatico.MSN.ca, the official portal of the NHL in Canada.
In another NHL All-Star Fan Balloting first, NHL broadcast partners VERSUS (U.S.), CBC, RDS (Canada) and the North American Sports Network (NASN) will partner with the NHL to deliver a comprehensive and global on-air presence to All-Star Fan Balloting. Each broadcast partner will provide unique, in-game "CLICK TO VOTE" features, broadcast promos and on-line direct links to the NHL All-Star Fan Balloting section on NHL.com.
The COLD-fX / NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, Presented by 2K Sports section on NHL.com will feature an interactive ballot, showcasing players with video clips, photos and virtual video game highlights created by 2K Sports. Residents of the United States and Canada who vote will be able to register for a chance to win a trip for two to the 2007 NHL All-Star Game. As part of the sweepstakes, sponsored by COLD-fX, Messier will meet the winner and a guest at the NHL All-Star Game.
NHL Member Clubs will activate local "CLICK TO VOTE" campaigns, supporting their balloted players.
The 2007 NHL All-Star Celebration hosted at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas will feature live national broadcasts of the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills event on Tuesday, Jan. 23 and the NHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Jan. 24 on VERSUS in the United States and CBC and RDS in Canada starting at 8 p.m., ET. NASN, the NHL's exclusive broadcast partner in Europe, will provide live coverage of both the Dodge/NHL SuperSkills event and the NHL All-Star Game to more than 25 countries and territories in Europe.
