Halifax Mooseheads General Manager Marcel Patenaude announced today the acquisition of 18-year-old defenseman Guillaume Monast in a trade with the Val-d'Or Foreurs for 20-year-old goaltender Jeremy Duchesne. In addition, the Mooseheads receive a third round pick in the 2008 QMJHL Entry Draft.

The 6'02, 193 pound Monast was drafted by the Foreurs in round five, 69th overall, in the 2004 QMJHL Entry Draft. In 35 games with Val-d'Or this season, Monast has four assists and 31 penalty minutes.

"We are pleased to obtain Guillaume Monast for our team," Patenaude said. "Our scouting staff thinks highly of him and we feel he will add stability to our defensive corps.

"We would like to thank Jeremy Duchesne for his fine play with the Halifax Mooseheads over the last two years and wish him the best in his future endeavors. We are happy to be able to place Jeremy with a team like Val-d'Or.

"Our organization feels it is time that our younger goaltenders, Roger Kennedy and Mark Yetman, are given the opportunity to carry the ball for the Halifax Mooseheads."

The trade is subject to approval by the league.
