If Thursday night wasn't the NHL equivalent of nirvana, then it's hard to imagine what could top it.
I don't know if I was the only one who thought the 2006-07 season was off to something of a slow start in terms of excitement and story lines in week one, but Thursday night remedied that.
Three natural hat tricks on one night, an NHL first, are you kidding me?
But the sizzle went beyond the three goal outbursts by Brian Gionta, Jonathan Cheechoo and Ryan Smyth.
In the case of Gionta and Smyth, their exploits keyed dramatic third period comebacks for the Devils and Oilers.
And, by the way, has Marty Brodeur ever looked worse than he did in regulation time or as steely as he did in the shootout?
