TORONTO (CP) - Right-winger Adam Pineault and defenceman Derrick Walser scored third-period goals to rally the visiting Syracuse Crunch past the Toronto Marlies 3-2 in American Hockey League action Saturday night.

Centre Janne Hauhtonen, with his first goal in North America, and right winger Joe Motzko also tallied for the Crunch. Hauhtonen, 27, of Finland, made his AHL debut in the game. Defenceman Ryan Caldwell also chipped in with two assists.

Centre Alex Foster and defenceman Chris Harrington replied for the Marlies before 3,316 fans at Ricoh Coliseum.

The victory was just the second in the past seven games for the Crunch, which improved to 6-15-1, but remained in last place overall in the AHL.

For the Marlies, it was their first regulation loss since Nov. 18, a 5-0 shutout at Manchester, N.H., as Toronto fell to 9-11-3 on the season.

Syracuse netminder Tomas Popperle stopped 23 of 25 shots for the victory. At the other end, Justin Pogge made 31 saves on 34 shots.

Syracuse was 2-for-11 on the power play, while Toronto went 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
