(Sports Network) - Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin tries to tie an 89-year-old record when the rookie sensation takes the ice tonight for the Penguins, who face off against the Los Angeles Kings at the Staples Center.

Malkin has scored a goal in each of the first five games of his promising career and can match the league's rookie record set by Cy Denneny, Newsy Lalonde and Joe Malone during the NHL's debut season of 1917-18.

The young Russian had a goal and two assists, while Sidney Crosby recorded his first career hat trick to lead the Penguins to an 8-2 rout of Philadelphia Saturday at the Wachovia Center.

Maxime Talbot scored twice and Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves for Pittsburgh, which won for the fourth straight time.

Los Angeles stopped a five-game losing streak on Monday, as Brent Sopel scored two first-period goals to propel the Kings to a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers at the Staples Center.

Sean Avery and Alexander Frolov each had a goal and an assist for Los Angeles, which won for just the second time in its last 11 contests. Craig Conroy added a pair of helpers in the win.
