Toronto, Ont. (Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2006) - The St. Michael's Majors recently returned from their holiday break and are now practicing in preparation for the second half of the season. In the meantime, there are player items that deserve mentioning.

Majors forward Kaspars Daugavins and defenceman Kriss Grundmanis recently competed for Latvia in the 2007 IIHF Division 1 World Under-20 Championship (Group A) in Denmark. The tournament's winning team was to receive automatic entry into the main pool for the 2008 Championship. Unfortunately, although Daugavins and Grundmanis helped lead the Latvian squad to a 4-1-0-0 record, they were beaten out by Denmark.

On the bright side, Daugavins tied for the tournament lead in scoring with 10 points in 5 games. And, Grundmanis produced the 3rd-highest point total for defencemen with 3 points in 5 games.

In other news, the Ontario Under-17 Team that will be competing in the 2007 Canada Winter Games was announced, and Majors goaltender Chris Carrozzi was included. The 16 year-old backstopper has enjoyed a solid start to his OHL career, with a 3-4-1-0 record to go along with a 4.01 goals-against-average and a 0.899 save percentage.

The tournament will run from February 24 to March 1, 2007 in Whitehorse, Yukon.

The Majors are back in action tomorrow evening when they visit the Peterborough Petes for a 7 p.m. tilt. They will return to St. Mike's Arena to battle the Mississauga IceDogs on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. The latter contest will be a special affair as both teams will be decked out in their third jerseys.

Majors game tickets are available by contacting the club at 416-651-8228, by calling Ticketmaster at 416-872-5000, online at Official Ticketmaster site. Tickets for Concerts, Sports, Arts, Theater, Family, Events, more or by stopping by the St. Michael's College School Arena box office within two hours of the puck drop.
