It was an action-filled affair tonight at the Hershey Centre, as the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors played host to the Belleville Bulls and defeated them in a hard-fought 7-4 victory. As a result, the Majors record climbs to 35-24-1-2 on the season.
Mississauga got all three goals in the 1st period to kick things off. David Corrente connected 9:59 into the frame off of a lone pass from Devante Smith-Pelly. Then, Mike Pelech (shorthanded) and Kaspars Daugavins each scored at 12:47 and at 18:47, respectively, to get the Majors ahead, 3-0. The asssts went to Cameron Gaunce and Tim Billingsley.
Belleville, however, came back in the 2nd period with two goals of their own. Brett Mackie and Nick Palmieri (power-play) each wired a shot into the Majors net at 4:25 and at 19:20, to make it 3-2. Cody Alcock, Scott Howe, Eric Tangradi and Luke Judson were the helpers.
Smith-Pelly opened up the scoring for the Majors 1:06 into the 3rd period with help from Jared Gomes and Gaunce. Mississauga's Casey Cizikas made it 5-2 with a marker at 3:45, while Gomes got the sole assist. The Bulls' Nick Pageau answered shortly after at 4:49, off of feeds from P.K. Subban and Judson. But the Majors remained strong the rest of the way, as William Wallén produced a tally at 12:36, and again at 14:54, to put them up 7-3. Corey Bureau, Daugavins, Jordan Mayer and Brett Flemming were the helpers. Cody Alcock got the final goal for the visitors at 15:46 on a man-advantage to round out the frame. The assists went to Shawn Lalonde and Stephen Silas.
Chris Carrozzi started in net for the Majors and blocked 27 shots, while made Phillip Grubauer made 30 saves for the Bulls. Mississauga went 0 for 2 on the power-play, while Belleville finished 2 for 7 on the night. The stars were Wallén (1st), Pelech (2nd) and Gaunce (3rd).
