VANCOUVER (CP) - Henrik Sedin scored the winning goal and goaltender Roberto Luongo was big in goal as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Calgary Flames 3-1 on Thursday night.
Sedin's second-period goal, off a pretty pass from his brother Daniel, was his first in 11 games.
Luongo stopped 20 shots for his first career victory against the Flames. The win comes after Luongo was pulled for giving up four goals on 20 shots in a 5-3 loss to Calgary on Saturday night.
Defenceman Mattias Ohlund and centre Brendan Morrison also scored for the Canucks who improved to 16-15-1. Vancouver had another goal disallowed when Alex Burrows was called for goaltender interference in the second.
The win, combined with a 5-2 victory over Phoenix on Tuesday night, was the first time Vancouver has won consecutive games since putting together a three-game win streak between Nov. 17 and Nov. 22 when they beat St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit in overtime.
It also was an important divisional victory for the Canucks, who are just 3-8-1 versus Northwest Division rivals.
Matthew Lombardi scored shorthanded for the Flames, whose record dropped to 15-11-3 with just the club's second loss in seven games.
The Flames have been hot at home, winning 10 straight games, but continue to struggle on the road where they are 3-8-3. The loss opened a six-game road trip, Calgary's longest of the season.
Luongo was huge in net, especially in the second when the Flames had four power plays and outshot the Canucks 12-6.
Luongo was especially strong when he dragged a pad in front of a Dion Phaneuf shot from the point on a power play, then got his body in front of a Jarome Iginla shot.
In the first, Luongo stood his ground and poke checked the puck away from Kristian Huselius on a 2-on-1 breakaway.
