Tampa Bay signed the left wing to a cap-friendly, one-year $650, 000 deal. Hlavac, 30, from the Czech Republic, played the past three seasons in Europe. In 2006-07, he had 20 goals and 31 points in 41 games for Sparta of the Czech elite league.

A second-round draft pick of the Islanders in 1995, he has 78 goals and 189 points in five NHL seasons for the Rangers, Flyers, Canucks and Hurricanes. He had career highs of 28 goals and 64 points in 79 games in the 2000-01 season for New York.
