Lightning re-sign KarsumsTAMPA – With the opening of training camp less than three weeks away, the number of Tampa Bay Lightning players unsigned was reduced by one on Tuesday.
Tampa Bay re-signed restricted free agent forward Martins Karsums to a one-year contract. Karsums, 23, was acquired from Boston last season along with defenseman Matt Lashoff in exchange for Mark Recchi and a 2010 second-round draft pick at the trade deadline.
The former Bruins second round pick in 2004 made his NHL debut with Boston last season appearing in six games before being dealt to Tampa Bay. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound right wing finished the season with the Lightning appearing in the final 18 games recording a goal and four assists while averaging 11 minutes, 40 seconds of ice time. Karsums also represented Latvia at the 2009 World Championships in April scoring a goal and adding three assists along 27 penalty minutes.
