(Sports Network) - The Washington Capitals try to end a four-game skid tonight when they welcome the Toronto Maple Leafs to the Verizon Center.

Washington is 0-2-2 during the slide, including Wednesday's 4-2 tilt against visiting Atlanta. Ilya Kovalchuk had a goal and an assist to lift the Thrashers to the victory.

Jakub Klepis had a goal and an assist and Olaf Kolzig stopped 28 shots for the Capitals in the loss. Washington squandered a 2-0 lead en route to the defeat.

The Caps' losing streak is their longest of the season.

Wednesday's match was marred by the late stages of the third period, which were fight-filled. After Atlanta's Vitaly Vishnevski took a run at Washington's Mike Green, things got out of control and several fights took place. In all, 162 penalty minutes were handed out in the final 1:02 of the game.

Washington forwards Donald Brashear and Brian Sutherby were each suspended one game for their parts in the mayhem. Brashear was also suspended for another two games under a rule that allows commissioner Gary Bettman to add additional games to a suspension if deemed necessary. Brashear retaliated for the actions against Green to start things off.

In addition, Capitals head coach Glen Hanlon was fined $30,000.
