I've heard his name before, but I honestly don't know enough about him to make an opinion.
You mention his lack of maturity, is it really that bad?

And I'm sure that's just what the Islanders told themselves when they drafted Todd Bertuzzi. He may have a temper, but it shows that he's passionate about the game. Personally I believe any player ~18 needs tuning for the NHL, and that is why veteran leadership is so important. If he's availible at 10 I'd very surprised, however if he is availible Vancouver should draft him, because the maturity will come with experience/veteran help, whereas his skill cannot be tought.
Nov. 18: During a game at Chilliwack, Beach crashes into the goal post and has to be helped from the ice. He suffers bruised ribs but later returns and scores two short-handed goals as the Tips win 4-1.
Dec. 14: Beach suffers a concussion in a fight with Tri-City's Mitch McColm late in a 3-1 Everett defeat. The concussion causes Beach to miss the final two games of the first half of the season.
Jan. 16: The infamous Beach-Bruton bust-up. Everett had just won 2-1 in Spokane when a tussle breaks out after the final horn. During the altercation, Spokane's Chris Bruton knocks Beach unconscious with a punch. Bruton is suspended for two games. Beach suffers his second concussion in just over a month. He misses six games because of this concussion.
hmmmm. Doesn't sound very good.
You know, maybe it's time they took a risk like that rather than going the safe route. There seems to be no argument among scouts that as far as his skill set goes, he's top five this year.Beach i'd be happy with.
I've watched him quiet a bit over the years and theres no denying his skill level.
He may also be one of the toughest guys playing in the whl.
Despite whats being said about him the rewards could far out weigh the risks.
Well right now i'd argue that being a Rocket season ticket holder. You know, maybe it's time they took a risk like that rather than going the safe route. There seems to be no argument among scouts that as far as his skill set goes, he's top five this year.
If they did draft him, I'd put him right into Manitoba next year where he could spend a season under Mike Keane's wing.
Then again, I really don't like his concussion history. I think at tenth, unless something shocking happened and a guy like Hodgson or Schenn dropped into their lap, I'd take the chance on Bailey rather than Beach. He's smaller, but he's a scorer that still seems to do his fair share of fighting.
Then again, although he's a defenseman, Tyler Myers may well be a better player than either Beach or Bailey by the time the dust settles on this crop.
Yeah, that seems to be the scuttlebutt on him...but a guy that is 6'7, still filling out and can skate? Tough to pass on, even if he is more Jovo than Chara.Well right now i'd argue that being a Rocket season ticket holder.
Myers is ackward and i can put up with that given his growth spurt.
His mental mistakes however are a whole different story and unless he becomes a smarter player i\d shy away from him.
Boychuck would be my choice he is a gifted player who has great hands and touch around the net. Plus he seemed defensively responsable.Yeah, that seems to be the scuttlebutt on him...but a guy that is 6'7, still filling out and can skate? Tough to pass on, even if he is more Jovo than Chara.
But if he's a project, I don't think Nonis can afford to take him this season. Nonis needs an impact player that can get into the lineup in the next two seasons from this draft to help save his job.
Question for you Doug. If Beach goes before Vancouver, who would you take? Did you see much of Sbisa, Boychuck or Robak this season?
And why take Filitov with the tenth pick when there isn't a transfer agreement in place? You think Filitov is going take $850,000 per with no guarantee that he won't spend the year in Manitoba making 60 grand when he can make 2 million per playing in the Russian Super League?Beach is a big boy and has good hands not to mention a right handed shot. But he has had some concussion promblems as well so not sure what Nonis does with the 10th pick. But Boedeker, Beach and Wilson are the three I would look at. But that goes all out the window if Nikita Filov is avalaible
Listening to Beach's coach in Everett, I'd say that the chances of Beach still being there at 10th are pretty slim. It seems that his combination of size and skill will overshadow his maturity and health concerns. Depite their need for puck moving defenders, look for the Jackets to grab him at 6th if he's still there.Well, the draft is fast approaching and the ratings have changed. Kyle Beach was originaly the name being thrown around most in this thread and he has dropped to #10. So there's now a good chance he'll be available when our turn comes.
What do we do?
To be honest, I've barely seen any junior hockey in the past months, so I'm looking for everyone's opinion. Not only on Beach, but on any other player we could land.
Actualy, I read somewhere (I think it was the Ottawa Sun) that the Sens were looking to move up in the draft, maybe a deal could be in place there?Listening to Beach's coach in Everett, I'd say that the chances of Beach still being there at 10th are pretty slim. As for the Canucks, after listening to Gillis talk about how character is the number one attribute he's looking for, I'd expect Boychuk to be their pick, unless one of the top 5 projected guys slip down.
And that's if they hang on to the pick. I'm expecting Gillis to trade down (from 10th to later in the first round), myself.
I read something like that too but I believe Gillis is going into the draft more looking to trade it then to keep it. He wants someone that will impact the Canucks now not in 4 years. If he gets the chance, I believe he'll trade it away. As a did hard Canucks fan view, I hope he keeps it and gets Boychuk or Hodgson because Kyle Beach will already be gone, it's too risky to take someone like him anyways.Actualy, I read somewhere (I think it was the Ottawa Sun) that the Sens were looking to move up in the draft, maybe a deal could be in place there?
