VANCOUVER (CP) - The number one-ranked Vancouver Giants won their team-record ninth straight home game, beating the Brandon Wheat Kings 3-2 in a shootout during Western Hockey League action Wednesday night.

Tim Kraus scored on the first shot of the shootout and Tyson Sexsmith stopped all three Brandon shooters to help the Giants to the win over the Wheat Kings (8-4-0-2). At the 15:20 mark of the first the Giants (13-0-1-0) broke the ice. With the help of Garret Hunt, J.D. Watt was able to steal the puck from behind the net and wrap it around to give the home team the lead.

Jeff Topilko scored his third of the year deflecting a Colby Robak shot with just over two minutes to go in the opening period, knotting the game 1-1.

The Giants got a power play after a controversial delay of game penalty. Just seconds later, Kraus fed the puck to Milan Lucic, who snapped the puck in at the 5:11 mark of the second to regain the Giants' lead. Brendan Mikkelson earned the second assist.

Theran Yeo beat Sexsmith (7-0-0) with six minutes to go in the second but he couldn't beat the red iron frame and the puck stayed out.
