ATLANTA (AP) - Ilya Kovalchuk scored two power-play goals in the first period and Marian Hossa had a goal and two assists to help the Atlanta Thrashers beat the Florida Panthers 6-3 Wednesday night in their pre-season home opener.

Jason Krog, an NHL veteran trying to return to the league after playing in Europe the last two seasons, had a goal and two assists for Atlanta.

Kovalchuk, who scored 52 goals last season, gave the Thrashers a 1-0 lead on a 15-foot wrist shot at 3:34. Hossa, who assisted on the first goal, got one of his own less than 6 minutes later on a 25-footer.
