New York, NY (Sports Network) - Ilya Kovalchuk of the Atlanta Thrashers, New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur and Pittsburgh Penguins rookie forward Evgeni Malkin have nabbed honors for the NHL's Three Stars of the Week.

The selections were based for the week ending October 29.

Kovalchuk, who was the first star, posted six goals and two assists in four road games to lead all scorers with eight points.

Kovalchuk netted a hat trick and added an assist in a 6-3 victory over the Florida Panthers on October 23.

Two nights later, the Russian forward had a goal and an assist in an overtime loss to Carolina. On October 26, he had a goal in a shootout loss to Philadelphia. Kovalchuk then helped put an end to the Buffalo Sabres' 10-game winning streak to start the season by scoring a goal in a 5-4 victory in the shootout.

Kovalchuk ranks fourth in NHL scoring with 16 points (eight goals, eight assists).

Brodeur captured the second star after compiling a 2-1-0 record to go along with a 1.34 goals-against average and .950 save percentage. Both wins were shutouts for Brodeur, giving him 83 career shutouts and moving him past Hall of Famer Jacques Plante for fourth place on the all-time list.

Congrats to all three of them. I am glad for my boy Kovalchuk. He has recently caught on fire. Hopefully he can keep this up.
