ENGLEWOOD, Colorado (Ticker) - Steve Konowalchuk of the Colorado Avalanche could not join his teammates for the start of training camp.

The team announced on Friday that an EKG revealed that the veteran left wing may have a heart problem.

"Results from standard EKG testing done yesterday (Thursday) revealed an abnormality and further examination is required at this time to determine the exact nature of his condition," Avalanche trainer Matt Sokolowski said.

Further information will be announced after more medical tests are conducted.

Konawalchuk, 33, missed the final 61 games and the playoffs last season with a wrist injury. He had six goals and nine assists in 21 games.

It really sucks how things are going for him the last few years. Hopefully things get better for Konowalchuk. The Avs need him.
