The Los Angeles Kings are expected to place goaltender Dan Cloutier on injured reserve Thursday with what they are calling a hip injury.

Cloutier, who did not accompany the team to Edmonton to start a three game road trip, was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Wednesday.

"The soreness ... in his hip is affecting his knee," head coach Marc Crawford tells the LA Times. "Hopefully by giving him a week off, it will give him time to work through the issues he has and allow him to play at the level we need him to play."

The Kings are expected to activate Mathieu Garon, who went through his first full practice with the team since suffering a groin injury back on November 29.

Crawford says Cloutier's latest setback is not related to the surgery he underwent on his left knee, which limited him to just 13 games last season.
