EDMONTON (CP) - The Edmonton Oil Kings are returning to the Western Hockey League.

The original Oil Kings won the Memorial Cup in 1963 and 1966. In a recent contest to name the recently-acquired major junior hockey franchise, more than 75 per cent of all entrants recommended that the team be named Oil Kings.

Home games will be at Rexall Place beginning next autumn, says Patrick LaForge, president of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and governor of the junior team.

"The history of the Oil Kings is one that many Edmontonians, and hockey fans everywhere, remember passionately," said LaForge. "We're pleased to announce that the Oil Kings are returning, and that a new chapter of their history is just beginning."
