BRAMPTON, Ont. (CP) - Joe McCann had a goal and an assist to lead the Plymouth Whalers to a 5-1 victory over the Brampton Battalion in Ontario Hockey League action Sunday.
Despite the absence of forward James Neal, who is with Team Canada's World Junior squad, the Whalers rolled to an easy victory.
Vern Cooper opened the scoring for the visitors 7:02 into the first period, the only goal during the frame.
Brampton drew even with the two-man advantage 5:06 into the second, as John Hughes set up rookie Cody Hodgson for his 16th goal of the campaign. Hodgson fired a sharp angle wrist shot from the opposite wing that beat Plymouth goaltender Jeremy Smith.
Dan Collins, Andrew Fournier and Evan Brophey also scored for Plymouth(22-10-1-1), which has won its last three games. Cody Hodgson put away the lone goal for the Battalion (13-20-1-2).
