(Sports Network) - For all the comedy that surrounded the New York Islanders in the offseason, what matters most is the quality of play they've shown recently. They have won three straight games, and sit in a three-way tie atop the Atlantic Division with the Rangers and Penguins.
On Thursday, Jason Blake tallied a goal and two assists as the Islanders beat the New Jersey Devils, 5-2, at Continental Airlines Arena.
Trent Hunter, Miroslav Satan, Alexei Zhitnik and Viktor Kozlov each netted a goal for the Islanders, who have won four of their last five games overall. Rick DiPietro made 14 saves for New York, which has won five straight and seven of the last nine meetings.
The Islanders' defense stepped to the forefront on Thursday, as the team allowed fewer than 20 shots against for the first time this campaign.
