(Sports Network) - The New York Rangers will try to put a terrible weekend behind them tonight, when they host the rival New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden.

The Blueshirts had won five straight contests before a pair of lopsided losses this weekend.

First came Saturday's 9-2 blowout in Toronto and that was followed the next night with a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the visiting New Jersey Devils.

Patrik Elias and Sergei Brylin both scored a pair of goals for the Devils on Sunday and Martin Brodeur earned the win with 35 saves. The result helped New Jersey pull within two points of the Rangers for the Atlantic Division lead.

Petr Prucha scored the lone goal for the Rangers, while Jaromir Jagr and Michal Rozsival recorded the assists. Kevin Weekes stopped 22-of-28 shots in defeat.

The rough two-game stretch may have been a result of the flu making its way through the Rangers' ranks. It's uncertain if the sickness will have an effect on tonight's game.
