NEW YORK (AP) - Jason Blake scored two of the New York Islanders' four third-period goals, rallying them past the New York Rangers 5-2 Monday night in the first pre-season matchup between the local rivals.
Blake fired a slap shot from above the right circle during a power play, snapping a 2-2 tie forged just moments earlier on the gritty forward's first goal of the exhibition season for the Islanders (1-2).
The lead grew to 4-2 just 3:01 later when Chris Simon turned his skate toward the open right side of the net and steered in a shot by Tom Poti. The goal was allowed since there was no kicking motion.
Jarkko Immonen had a goal and set up one for Ivan Baranka for the Rangers (3-1).
Viktor Kozlov had a power-play goal in the second period and Arron Asham added one in the third for the Islanders, who showed off their 'A' lineup for the first time in the pre-season.
