(Sports Network) - Both Martin Brodeur and his New Jersey Devils look to continue their hot streaks tonight, when the Atlantic Division leaders travel across the Hudson River to take on the New York Islanders.
New Jersey comes in having won four of its last five games and is an outstanding 7-1-1 over its last nine. Brodeur has been a prime reason for that successful run, as the future Hall of Fame goaltender has compiled a 1.55 goals-against average and three shutouts over that time.
Brodeur was terrific again last night, stopping 25 of 26 shots to help the Devils to a 2-1 home victory over the Atlanta Thrashers.
New Jersey trailed 1-0 midway through the third period, but received power- play goals from Scott Gomez and Sergei Brylin within a 28-second span to forge ahead.
Brian Gionta assisted on Gomez's tally to extend his point streak to six straight games. He has amassed five goals and three helpers during the tear.
The Islanders are on a good stretch of their own. After suffering six consecutive defeats, including a pair of setbacks to New Jersey, from December 27 to January 6, New York has regrouped to record back-to-back road wins over the Rangers and Boston.
New York is coming off Thursday's thrilling shootout victory over the Bruins, in which Jason Blake netted the clincher in the fourth round of the deciding phase to give the Isles a 5-4 triumph.
Viktor Kozlov sent the contest into overtime by scoring with just 1:39 remaining in the third period. He also added an assist to help the Islanders defeat Boston for a sixth straight time.
