The New York Islanders will be without forward Shawn Bates for at least Thursday night's game against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Centre Frans Nielsen will make his third appearance in the Islanders' lineup after being recalled from Bridgeport on an emergency basis.
''We'll certainly miss Shawn in the lineup, he was really coming around recently,'' said Islanders head coach Ted Nolan. ''We've seen what Frans can do and we expect him to fit in nicely again.''
