The International Hockey League (IHL) completed the first expansion draft of the new IHL on Thursday. The Dayton Gems and Quad City Mallards took part in the draft as they will begin play for the 2009-2010 season. The order in which the Clubs choose players was determined by the order in which they were approved for admittance into the league.

Teams were allowed to protect 13 skaters and one (1) goaltender, losing a maximum of three (3) players. Players not drafted by the two member clubs will have their rights returned to the Club that left the player unprotected.
