(Sports Network) - Last year's Stanley Cup champions and the best team in the NHL this season meet tonight in Carolina, as the Hurricanes welcome the Anaheim Ducks to town.
The defending champion Hurricanes had their longest winning streak of this season snapped Thursday evening, as they were handed a 4-1 setback by Buffalo. Ryan Miller made 29 saves, leading the Sabres to the victory at HSBC Arena.
Craig Adams got the lone tally for Carolina, which had its five-game winning streak stopped. John Grahame made 22 saves in the loss.
The Hurricanes, who are 10-5-1 as the host this year, will wrap up a brief two-game homestand Sunday night against Philadelphia.
The Ducks, who lead the NHL with 62 points, last played Tuesday evening in San Jose and earned a 4-3 victory against their Pacific Division rivals. Chris Perry netted the deciding goal midway through the third period for Anaheim.
Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere sustained a groin injury with about three minutes remaining in the second and did not return. His replacement, Michael Wall, made four saves to help his team to a victory.
Giguere is listed as day-to-day and may miss tonight's contest.
