TAMPA, Fla. (AP) - Jiri Hudler scored three goals and Joey MacDonald made 32 saves to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-1 in a pre-season game Thursday night.
Hudler completed his hat trick with a breakaway goal to put the Red Wings ahead 3-0 with 14:37 left in the third period. Pavel Datsyuk assisted on all three goals by Hudler.
MacDonald stopped Vincent Lecavalier during a 2-on-1 break 3 minutes after Tampa Bay pulled within 3-1 on Tim Taylor's goal 6-minutes into the third.
Hudler put Detroit ahead 1-0 on a power-play goal at 11:57 of the second. He then made it 2-0 with 1:55 left in the period. Both goals came from the low right-circle.
Forty minutes after the game, the media was informed that an empty-net goal by Detroit's Daniel Cleary with a second left did indeed count. Originally, the public address announcer said the goal would not count because time had expired.
