(Sports Network) - After the circus forced the Bruins to open the season with five consecutive road games, the team had a six-game homestand to look forward to. Boston began the set with a 3-2 win over Calgary on October 19, but proceeded to lose three of the next four tilts.

On Thursday the B's dropped a 5-4 shootout affair to Buffalo, as Ales Kotalik's goal with 1:35 left in the third period tied the game, and then his goal in the shootout proved to be the difference.

Marc Savard had a goal and two assists for the Bruins, who failed in their attempt to win consecutive games for the first time this season.

P.J. Axelsson added a goal and an assist, while Tim Thomas stopped 29 shots for Boston. Glen Murray and Mark Mowers also tallied in the loss.

Even though Buffalo won, the Bruins did well ... MUCH better than the previous encounter. Throughout most of the game, Boston had superior passing, tenacity, and pursuit. Tim Thomas was GREAT in goal until Max shattered his universe with those incredible goals.

They have to remember as well, it took a shoot-out for Buffalo to win that game!! It could have gone either way.

Every game their looking better and better!!
