Canadian players swept Hockey East's weekly awards, starting with New Hampshire sophomore forward Trevor Smith of North Vancouver taking player of the week honours. Smith, who leads the conference in scoring with 30 points, tallied a goal and two assists in a 7-1 win at Vermont on Jan. 5 and scored first in a 2-1 win over the Catamounts on Jan. 6.

Teddy Purcell of St. John's, a freshman forward at Maine, received Hockey East rookie of the week accolades after compiling four goals and an assist in a weekend sweep of UMass Lowell. Purcell, who leads the NCAA in rookie scoring with 28 points, had two goals in a 4-2 win on Jan. 5 and two goals and an assist in a 5-2 win on Jan. 6. Northeastern freshman goaltender Brad Thiessen of Aldergrove, B.C., was named Hockey East defensive player of the week after making 14 saves in a 3-2 overtime win at No. 7-ranked Boston College on Jan. 5 and stopping 26 shots in a 0-0 tie at No. 13-ranked Boston University on Jan. 6.
