3rd Period Errors Sink Bears
A series of third period errors proved costly for the Bears as they fell 6-2 to the Mountainview Colts. The scoreless first period saw the Bears outshoot the Colts 9-8. The Colts would take a 2-0 lead in the second period until Paddy Iverson forced the Colts into turning over the puck and streaked down the right side to beat Colts goaltender Kris Jackson with a hard low shot. The second closed out with the Colts leading 2-1 and holding 16-7 advantage in shots.
The third period saw the Colts score just 30 seconds into the frame when Ian Brander forced a Bear turnover and fed Jeff Claze in the slot. Claze's shot beat Swartz high over the shoulder. Tyler Farmer would bring the Bears back to within one goal when he intercepted a Colt pass at the BHA blueline and score on a nice breakaway opportunity. The Colts scored while the Bears took two back to back penalties The PK got caught following the puck and left Ian Brander all alone in front of BHA goaltender Swartz. Brander made a few nice moves and beat Swartz to give the Colts a 4-2 lead. Less than fiour minutes later Jeff Claze would use speed and finesse to beat the BHA defense and beat Swartz. Down three goals, the Bears pulled Swartz for the extra attacker when the Colts took an elbowing penalty at 17:07. After several chances to score the Bears lost the puck and the Colts scored into the empty net.
