The San Jose Sharks on Tuesday reassigned goaltender Nolan Schaefer from their AHL affiliate in Worcester to the Hershey Bears.

Schaefer, 27, was a fifth-round selection by San Jose in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft after playing four years at Providence College. The fourth-year pro is 5-8-3 with a 2.80 goals-against average in 16 appearances for Worcester this season.

Schaefer made his NHL debut with San Jose last season, winning his first five decisions and posting a 1.87 GAA in seven appearances (5-1-0).

The Yellow Grass, Sask., native is expected to join Hershey in time for Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia against the Phantoms.

“With a great track record at the AHL level, and success last season with San Jose, his record speaks for itself”, said Bears President/GM Doug Yingst. “With the injuries that our goaltenders have sustained, this was an opportunity to stabilize the position moving forward.”
