(Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Flyers and Atlanta Thrashers meet for the second time in less than a week, as they battle this evening at Philips Arena.

The Thrashers also hosted Philadelphia last Sunday and the Flyers notched a 2-1 victory. The Flyers are 2-0 in the season series and have taken four straight and seven of the last eight matchups overall.

Last week's win over the Thrashers was the only one for Philly in its last 12 games (1-8-3).

Since beating the Thrashers, the Flyers dropped a shootout decision to Tampa Bay on Tuesday and were then dealt an overtime setback by New Jersey on Thursday. Both losses came at home, where the Flyers have lost a franchise- record 12 straight games.

Brad Lukowich tallied the game-winner for the Devils in Thursday's 6-5 win, as he scored with 49.5 seconds left in OT. The Flyers had taken a 5-4 lead on Peter Forsberg's goal with 4:10 left in the third period, but Zach Parise netted the equalizer with just 31.8 seconds remaining in regulation.

Thrashers can't solve Flyers

Associated Press
2/3/2007 9:55:07 PM

ATLANTA (AP) - Mike York and Simon Gagne scored goals in a 57-second span early in the third period to help Philadelphia beat Atlanta 5-2 on Saturday night, extending the Flyers' unbeaten streak against the Thrashers to nine games.

York scored the go-ahead goal 2:24 into the third period, less than a minute after Gagne tied it off an assist from Peter Forsberg.

York's goal was the subject of a lengthy review while officials confirmed his stick wasn't too high when he took an awkward bunt-like swing, hitting the puck off the shaft of his stick into the net.

Jeff Carter's short-handed goal on a breakaway with about 6 minutes left pushed the lead to 4-2. With 1:04 left and Atlanta goalie Kari Lehtonen watching from the bench, Alexei Zhitnik added an empty-net goal.

Antero Nittymaki stopped 32 shots, allowing only one goal, to move to 6-0 against Atlanta with his second win over the Thrashers in a week. Nittymaki led the Flyers to a 2-1 win in Atlanta last Sunday.

Flyers coach John Stevens opened the game with Robert Esche in net, but Esche left with a stiff neck 6:59 into the game.

Carter's goal came less than 30 seconds after Forsberg's slashing penalty. The Thrashers couldn't score with the man advantage, leaving them without a power-play goal in six of their last seven games. They were 0-for-4 on the power play in the game.

Philadelphia, last in the NHL with 33 points, moved to 8-0-1 against Atlanta since its last loss to the Thrashers on Dec. 21, 2003.
