(Sports Network) - The New York Islanders aim for their first three-game winning streak in over two months this afternoon, as they visit the sliding Washington Capitals at the Verizon Center.
The Islanders are coming off consecutive wins in Atlanta and Montreal and a positive result today in the finale of a three-game road trip will give New York three straight victories for the first time since November 22-25.
New York played in Montreal on Saturday afternoon and rallied for a 4-2 win by scoring three times in the third period. Miroslav Satan and Trent Hunter scored two goals apiece to lead the Isles.
Hunter has registered a point in six straight games, and has notched five goals and three assists during that stretch.
Rick DiPietro was solid in goal for New York, stopping 28-of-30 shots.
The Islanders improved to 13-12-2 as the visiting team this season.
On the injury front, Isles defenseman Radek Martinek suffered a fractured ankle in the win and early evaluations revealed that he could miss the next four-to-six weeks.
Meanwhile, the Capitals were dealt their third consecutive setback on Saturday, as they were handed a loss in Pittsburgh. Ronald Petrovicky scored the game-winning goal and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 30 shots faced as the Penguins defeated Washington, 2-0, at Mellon Arena.
