Keller was a UFAVI, and he's already extended for one year at $525k.

You're probably looking at Foligno, Regin, Winchester, Campoli and one of Volchnkov or Sutton out of the remaining list. Cullen will probably have a contract offered to him, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him hitting the free agency waters.
Keller was?! The news paper here said he was an RFA but that was sometime ago so i dunno

The newspaper was likely just taking their facts and whatnot from nhlnumbers.com, who has a terrible track record regarding UFAVI information. It's a good tool for a quick glance for cap hit though, but not a whole lot else.

Keller is over 25 years old, played three professional North American seasons (05/06 with the Griffins/Fury, 06/07 with the Griffins/Crunch and this year with Binghamton) and has only played 6 NHL games, which is a far cry from the 80 he needs. By definition, he's a UFAVI.

Either way, he's extended so you don't have to worry about him.

I would like to see the Sens keep Volchenkov, Foligno, Regin, and Campoli. I wouldn't mind Cullen but it depends on the price. I would also like to see Kovalev traded but I doubt that will happen with a $5 million salary.

They're not going to keep Volchenkov. Murray is no where close to what Volchenkov wants. Volchenkov also sold his home in Ottawa and its reported in the Ottawa Sun and TSN that the Washington Capitals are looking to make an offer to Volchenkov.

Not the greatest of news but with the contracts Ottawa has they are not going to be able to re-sign him and I personally don't think hes worth 5 million. Hes a great player to have on your team but not at that price.

Ottawa has a lot of young guys developing on defense. Karlsson looks like he is going to bloom nicely so I am not totally saddened by this but if Murray wanted to keep the A-Train, he could've dealt Kuba, Kelly and probably Lee.

Then again, 5 million.

The Senators offered him $4.5M on a contract comparable to the one that Komisarek signed with the Leafs last season. I'm not sure why TSN is attaching the Capitals to Volchenkov at this point, but if the Capitals mentioned wanting Volchenkov, then they should be expecting an investigation regarding tampering. Of course, it's probably just TSN going "Volchenkov's Russian and the Capitals have lots of Russians, he'll go there to run free with the other Russians."

How much do you think he's actually worth? Orpik and Commodore both make $3.75M, Regehr makes $4M, and Komisarek and Hannan both make $4.5M.

IF Ottawa can't Re-Sign Volchenkov i would like to see Sutton Signed I mean sure we have like an OVERLOAD of defensemen but Cowen unless he pulls a Karlson i don't think is ready for a FULLTIME position on the roster

So you'd want Volchenkov/Sutton, Phillips, Kuba, Carkner, Karlsson and Campoli? Who's the seventh? Lee?

Karlsson's a rookie so he couldn't go right? volchenkov or Phillips could be traded. I think Sutton should stay and Campoli as well. I'm not sure about rest.?

Murray said he wasn't close on contract talks with Volchenkov. Plus Volchenkov just sold his home in Ottawa. Now your probably right about Washington but they do have the cap space for Volchenkov and they are looking to upgrade their defense. Volchenkov is a perfect fit for them.

I was already prepared for him to leave and so were a lot of sens fans. I'd rather Kuba leave instead.

Karlsson is a rookie and is contract hasn't expired yet so yes he won't be leaving anytime soon. I am sure hes going to develop into a fine defenseman.

Ottawa could trade the rights of Volchenkov to a team. Other than that hes probably going to walk this July 1st due to free agency.

Phillips, I wouldn't trade him. Hes done well this year and hes a great defenseman and a good team leader.

I am not a fan of Sutton too much. He can do damage to a player but his speed is not very attractive.

Carkner is kind of the same but he fights and I like that.

Brian Lee looks to be a bust. I think Ottawa should trade him.

Kuba and Campoli they're probably staying.

Lee OR Cowen Whichever can make it really BUT I think Lee may be more ready than Cowen and Usually Teams have 6 regular D-men
Teams usually have a 7th defenseman waiting incase of injury. You wouldn't go on a long road trip with only 6 defensemen.

Volchenkov is not going to be in Ottawa this October. Sutton is cheaper but not as effective.

Cowen is probably not ready yet. Lee has a better chance but I am not a big fan of him.

Yeah I wouldn't pay Volchenkov $5 million either. 3, maybe 3.5 at most.

You're going to pay him LESS than what Neil a player that can EASILY be replaced? This is one of the greater shut down D-man eight now not scared to lay in front of the puck and to be honest He breaks other but what can break him? A hit? NO A puck to the face? NO

With contracts like Spezza, Kovalev, and Cheechoo it hurts to sign a guy like Volchenkov. If this was next year we would have him for sure.
